Young Volunteers

National Coal Mining Museum

Ongoing

The Young Volunteers are a group of young people, aged 16-25, who volunteer at the National Coal Mining Museum for England. Through volunteering opportunities and new experiences, the Young Volunteers gain transferable skills and contribute to planning and running events and exhibitions at the Museum.

The Young Volunteer program launched in April 2019. Since then, young people have been empowered to develop skills in problem-solving, communication, teamwork and leadership. The first major project, Life Amongst the Diamonds, took place in July 2019. The very first youth arts festival at the Museum was a massive success, attracting over 100 young performers and artists.

Future projects include designing and developing interactive games and activities in an upcoming exhibition at the Museum.
