Zine-Writing Workshop with The Writing Squad

Kelham Island Museum

February 2019

In February 2019 the youth group Fruitbowl took part in a three-day zine-writing workshop at Kelham Island Museum. This was part of the museum’s ‘Creative Spaces’ programme of workshops exploring industrial heritage through creative media.

Lauren Vevers from The Writing Squad led the workshop. Inspiration for the zines came from the museum’s archive collection of magazines published by the local steel company Osborn’s. The magazines in the collection date back to the 1920s and give and insight into life at the time. The workshop began with a guided tour of the museum. This was followed by a series of creative writing exercises to create alternative museum guides. These zines were displayed at the museum in April 2019.
