A Life Amongst the Diamonds

In July 2019 the National Coal Mining Museum held its first ever youth arts festival ‘A Life Amongst the Diamonds’. The festival was produced by young people for young people, using the heritage of mining as the inspiration for performances. Performers included many local youth arts groups, including Green Top Circus, Yew Tree Theatre, Stride Theatre, and Northern Lights Academy.

Not only were the performers on the day all young people, but the event was entirely organised by a fantastic group of Young Volunteers. Through a series of workshops the Young Volunteers learned how to market and organise an event, as well as how to document the day using film and photography.

The festival was a huge success, with our young volunteers creating this short film to highlight the experience and what the project has meant to them.
