Art of Sound is now online

Art of Sound participants are featured in this year’s Compass Festival.

In 2020 Ignite Yorkshire launched Art of Sound: a workshop in collaboration with Compass Festival and Geraldine Connor Foundation. Working with artists Amy Sharrocks and Tom Hackley, eight young artists created immersive sound pieces which encapsulated their personal responses to Leeds waterways and its links to our industrial heritage.

The young artists involved in the workshop took part in recording the people and sounds of Crown Point Bridge with the artists and their work was woven into the final piece. The sound pieces created at Art of Sound were incorporated into The Ballad of Crown City Point Bridge, a sonic artwork installed under the bridge for Compass Festival 2021. The bridge provided an entirely immersive environment where the full extent of the sound piece could be heard within the context of the canal.

The individual sound pieces are now available to listen to online. To learn more about the young artists, Compass Festival and the Art of Sound project click here.

With thanks to The Geraldine Connor Foundation, Compass Festival, Amy Sharrocks, Tom Hackley and all the young artists involved.
